Professional Biography

Piia H Brown, has over 20 years’ experience working with academic institutions, non-profits, corporations, and local, state, and federal public health programs. Her past roles include Medicaid Chief of Quality for the Louisiana Department of Health, Chief of Perinatal and Infant Health at the Washington DC Department of Health, Senior Program Manager at the Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs, Program Analyst for the Metro Nashville/Davidson County Public Health Department, and adjunct faculty for George Mason University and Lamar University. She is currently the principal consultant for Ph Solutions, a boutique public health consulting firm, and adjunct faculty for the Leadership Development to Advance Equity in Health Care program conducted with the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Mrs. Brown has been recognized for her efforts to make a lasting impact in Maternal and Child Health and also to the broader community. She is recipient of the APHA MCH Young Professional of the Year award, the Xavier University 40 Under 40 award, the University of Maryland Global Campus University Edward A Parnell Outstanding Alumnus service award, and also the George Mason University Teacher of Distinction award. She serves on numerous national boards and committees, including the Centering Healthcare Institute, Generate Health STL, the American Public Health Association Maternal and Child Health section, and the Meharry Medical College MSPH Advisory Committee. Additionally, she is a co-author in the 4th edition of Kotch’s Maternal and Child Health: Problems, Programs, and Policy in Public Health, and the Practical Playbook III: Working Together to Improve Maternal Health.

Piia received a Baccalaureate in Biology from Xavier University of Louisiana, her Masters of Science in Public Health degree from Meharry Medical College, a certificate in Health Policy through the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Center for Health Policy at Meharry, and her Masters in Business Administration from the University of Maryland Global Campus. She was a fellow of the prestigious Maternal Child Health Public Health Leadership Institute at the University of North Carolina, and she received an executive education in Design Thinking for Healthcare Leaders from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
