Breastfeeding Resources – LATCH Tool

The LATCH Tool was created by the TASC’s Winter 2022 Healthy Start Breastfeeding Cohort. The tool is designed for lactation counselors, case managers, and others who work with mothers and birthing people throughout the maternal continuum of care (i.e., preconception, pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and parenting). The tool identifies risk factors, protective factors, questions to ask, and potential interventions that can be taken to support breastfeeding during each phase of the continuum. Additionally, the tool provides space for staff members to add their own notes. We encourage Healthy Start staff to use the LATCH tool to strengthen their breastfeeding support efforts.
