Breakout – Working to Achieve Equity in Infant Survival

This breakout session was part of the 2021 Healthy Start Grantee Meeting and featured Dr. Stacy Scott, founder of the Global Infant Safe Sleep (GISS) Center. During the session, participants learned about the historical impact of infant death on enslaved families and the root causes of Black infant mortality. Participants explored the prevalence and definitions of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and sudden unexpected infant deaths (SUID). Finally, participants learned about strategies for reducing the risk of SIDS in the caregiver setting and at home.
