Ask the Expert: Criminalization and Legal Implications of Substance Use Among Pregnant Women as it Impacts Tribal Communities

This webinar focuses on issues related to pregnant women in tribal communities and common reasons they do not self-report substance use due to fear of child removal, fear of legal action. Issues surrounding lack of knowledge or awareness among care providers about how to respond when women self-disclose substance use while pregnant are reviewed. Current trends in best practices among tribal nations in how to support pregnant women using substances are shared, along with the different layers of jurisdiction for tribal people including tribal, county, state, and federal and Urban Indian populations.
